Mamet's wild and unruly novel about the collapse of the internet and the disappearance of our culture and its long hard won past and how some literary editors get together to try to reconstruct it by using the memories of Ginger, the wife of President Woodrow Wilson. Full of puns, ethnic jokes, poetry and gags this example of the new "scholarly fiction" was bombed by the critics, "A remarkably unremarkable writer of fiction" Kirkus Reviews. 219 Maugham, Robin The Servant
New York Harcourt Brace & Co. 1949 1st American Edition Cloth with Dustjacket
Compelling short novel about a servant who slowly takes over his employer's life. Made into a striking film in 1964 that revived the career of Joseph Losey and was the first of his several collaborations with Harold Pinter who wrote the screenplay and the late great actor Dirk Bogarde who gave an outstanding performance as "The Servant." A few very tiny chips to the tips and the very top of the spine panel along with a few old tape stains on the verso of the front, back flaps and the back panel which have also lightly stained the pastedowns and the cloth. The wonderful dustjacket artwork is by G.N. Fish. Near fine/near fine.
