2 Portraits of Roscoe
316 Arbuckle, Roscoe 'Fatty' 2 Portraits of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle
New York Apeda 1920 Original Photographs Paper
2 very nice original 8" x 10" photograph portraits of the silent screen comedian Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle who is most remembered today for the murder trial that ruined his life and career even though after 3 trials he was acquitted of all charges. Arbuckle was a major star only second in popularity to Chaplin, but after the scandal he was finished in movies. In the early 30's he started to make films again but his bad luck continued with him dying at the early age of 1946 in 1933. The first portrait is a close-up of him taken by the famous photo studio Apeda which I would date around 1920. The photo has wear: some creasing, chipping and a few old tape mends to the verso. The 2nd portrait printed on heavy stock paper is a full length one of Arbuckle doing a soft shoe with his bowler hat balanced on his extended arm. Although from the teens or early 20's the date stamped on the verso is Nov. 16, 1932. which leads me to believe that this photo is an early reprint. There appears that a photo caption was attached but was removed.

318 Arbus, Diane Untitled
New York City Aperture 1995 089381623x / 9780893816230 First Edition First Printing Oversize Illus Bds. W. Dj.
Superb book by the great photographer. "Untitled is the third volume of Diane Arbus's work and the only on devoted exclusively to a single project. The photographs were taken at residences for the mentally retarded between 1969 and 1971, in the last years of Arbus's life. Although she considered doing a book on the subject, the vast majority of these pictures have remained unpublished until now." Not a politically correct description, but the photographs are brilliant I would have of course said mentally challenged instead of retarded. Reproduced from prints by Neil Selkirk. Afterword by Doon Arbus. Edited and designed by Doon Arbus and Yolanda Cuomo. Unpaginated (112 pp.), with 51 duotone plates beautifully printed in Italy by L.E.G.O./Eurografica, Vicenza, from separations by Robert Hennessey. Laid in is a somewhat uncommon small 8pg. brochure from an exhibit of Diane Arbus's photographs that traveled and was shown at The Gray Art Gallery at New York University. 8 photos+ short text.. The book is fine with a fine dustjacket that has a touch of wear to the tip and top edge of the dustjacket. Extra postage might be required because of the weight and size of the book
